They work fine for me. The really older ones (6months or so) worked fine for me when I had my Radeon. I got a really cheap (as in cost) FireGL X-1 on an auction. As in $250 Australian w00 ...

Radeons work fine in linux http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html see the linux option? click that. Then you see Radeon series, FireGL and Mobile. Click appropriately.
