can I learn to program for Seal2 using the Seal 1.x and Badsectors programming tutorials? Would the compiled apps from these tutorials still run under the current Seal2 release. Finally, but not least.... What version of DJGPP do I need... please provide links...I know you got links... I'm just to damned lazy to look for them

Yes, the old SEAL 1.x API reference and tutorials usually work fine for 2.0. Most old SEAL 1.x apps can be ported without many changes too. I don't think I've ever got a SEAL 1.x application to actually run directly on SEAL 2.0 (ie, without being recompiled) without crashing though, due to API changes. Maybe I'll try a simple "Hello World" app at some point...

I'd advise you go to the DJGPP Zip Picker. For SEAL development, you'll need to select "C" and "C++" programming languages, but Assembly is also recommended. You don't need RHIDE, but it is a nice development environment for DOS. Don't download Allegro from the Zip Picker, as it's only version 3.12. Instead, get Allegro 4.0.1 from http://alleg.sourceforge.net/. See docs/build.txt for other information.

Most of the stuff works right away, I think. There may be some stuff in the api that doesn't work... And you will notice that

We've had a few posts that are almost at the same time, if not exactly at the same time. (Me and madfab posted one at the same time once)
