Since SEAL is going to be rewritten from scratch in C++, perhaps GCC 3.1 ought to be used to develop it in order to ensure that SEAL works with GCC 3.x. This would also be to the advantage, since GCC 3.1 has a better C++ ABI and is much more fully compliant with the current C++ standards.

well, since we're starting from scratch i don't see that there's any point in using antique GCC versions, 3.1 is perfectly feasable at this stage, Leon, if S3 is meant to be written in C++ then what is the benefit of converting it to C?

I think making SEAL work with GCC 3 will be good. If it can also work with 2.95 though, even better - it should be as portable as possible.

This is rambling, feel free to ignore.

djgpp is the de facto 32-bit standard compiler, the only other option is OpenWatcom. I say stick to djgpp.

As for gcc versions, even I have 3.03... (Not g++) I think that the latest compiler is probably the way to go, or at least try to build for 3.03 at a minimum.

well, since SEAL3 is cross platform it wont just be DOS compilers, this is a very old thread and development has already started on SEAL3, GCC3.x compatible AFAIK.

I just wanted to say hi to you guys, it's me xduffy (David).

I don't have time for Seal anymore, as you may have guessed by now... My studies takes too much time, and so does my girlfriend (yes, I have a girlfriend! *happy me*)

But I won't disappear totally, I will continue to follow the development whenever I have time, as i have done the latest month. And I have downloaded the TP's and I find them promising!

But nothing have happend for a long while now, right? Is it only Ganesh that develops at all?

Yes, I know that I promised to help out, and I haven't. I am very sorry for that, since I really wanted too, and still do. But the reasons I told you are in my way..

Well, good luck and I will hopefully be able to rejoin the project at a later point... maybe to the spring term.. bye for now!

It's gone very quiet now - people seem to be losing interest in SEAL and so on.

Silence is bad....

Should we let Seal die, or is someone working behind the scenes?

I just got laid off from work, so I'm looking on to bigger better things.... possibly a DSL Service.
