There wouldn't be any problems porting Seal there.... Since the C thingie takes care of the wrapping stuff... I mean, if you run a system that does multitasking you just have to rewrite the C wrappers to work with the local multitasking implementation...

Multitasking is quite powerful since it requires that tasks cannot see each other (what would make interprocess communication unneedful hard). Rather use multithreading.
To change a thread is much cheaper than to change a task. That's why threading was implemented in Solaris, HP-UX, SGI Irix and many other OSs.

Anyway, back to the subject: Porting will not be a problem as long as we have our interfaces seperating the layers (and as long as the upper layers use only their interfaces downwards).

I think you're right if we go the multithreading way older computers will have a chance and newer will be blazingly fast

Which I missing is the Protected mode this DPMI is not stable so each time can Crash .
