I have started messing around with badsectors idea with using TheForce as the seal 3 starting point and I think it can be done. I do not think that any of the Seal 2 apps will end up running on the new seal 3 if its done that way, but oh well. 2004 will be a new year and a new year for Seal Production. Any ideas

I have followed Seal since its starting point Uniforms.... Seal 1.... Seal 2... I think everything can be done better if we start a better way to oraninze the code. So we dont end up making a mess out of the Seal code which happened with Seal 2. We should devide into teams.

Webmaster (Project Maintainer) I would be willing.
Kernel Coding (Start with TheForce Code)
Module Coding... MP3...WAVE....Ect
Drivers (Work with the Kernel team)
App Coding...

Plus we should have a submaintainer for each of the sections.

Any other thoughts email me at starvbasic@insightbb.com

BadSector is for me the ONLY alternative for Project maintainer, and things MUST be done hes way! at least as far as SEAL 3 is concerned.

And also when it comes to an possible SEAL 4 ucosty`s little project should NOT have this name, since it will take away the 4-version name for seal under BadSectors command.

however: ucosty: do not stop coding! (Muchos importante) Mr Green because I belive you may be on to something, something that I like, and maybe I can talk you into another project, just as fun, but maybe with a little twist?

We need to put our heads together and start some MAJOR plaing.
Also we do not need to neglect the documentation for Seal3.

We might want to conider to write the documentation first (at least a good majority of it). Then we could write the code to fit the documentation. This way we may stim off most of the mess that happend in Seal2.

Naa. Not that I think we need a good outline of Seal 3 though.

Whats going to be supported....
What Libs are going to be used?
What Version of DJGPP it will be compatable to start in.. I say the newest.

To be honest, SEAL is a mess. The fake object-oriented system used does not translate well to other languages, the code is a mess, and some bits are quite hackish and hard to expand on. So here is my proposal. We rewrite SEAL from scratch. Yes, that's what SEAL 2.0 was meant to be, but it wasn't - it was still based on SEAL 1.x. Now, this would be a lot of work, I know, but sooner or later, something like this would have to be done.

The steps in doing this would involve:

  1. Planning the new API, and throwing feature suggestions around
  2. Assigning tasks to developers
  3. Starting to write the code

The new code should be portable, clean and efficient.

Now, this will be a large task, but what do you all think about it?

This is what I agree with right here.

Yes we realy need to recode Seal from scratch, or we will end up with another mess. We need to top bickering and start planning. I hope we have since anof to start planning soon.
