adding support for MNG and animGIF based icons would add a massive overhead(if used)

well, there's an HTML rendered of sorts, but it's a bit of a mess, there's no TCP/IP stack so internet in general is not going to be easy.

we can do a new splash screen, i've recently started working on iconsets for GNOME2 so i can do something about making the icons less winXP and more unique.

anything else is going to require other people with the time and expertise to code it.

An office suite is needed if seal is going to be big. As an idea, how hard woud it be to get seal to run GEM .app binaries? That way we'd get a pretty decent office suite, and it would be easier to become the dominant FreeDOS desktop (if that's what we want) because we'd be compatiable with more programs.

We have discussed running GEM programs under SEAL, and I did start work on a sort of interface layer for it a while ago, but because GEM apps are 16-bit and use a rather archaic means of communication, it won't be very easy (and the apps won't be able to multitask with any great ease either).

It is possible by assigning a virtual machine process (VM86) and putting an emulation layer on it, but i don't believe that the result deserves the work (GEM programs are too limited and not too much).

OK, I just thought it might be easier than porting or writing replacements. Are there any office-type allegro apps out there? It doesn't really seem to be used for much except games, although there are some very good games for it.

seing as i have no idea how to properly compile seal (i cant even get djgpp to install correctly) ther is two features I want. A backup registry in case the main one gets corrupted and a faster refresh rate for graphics. In solitare on my pentium 75 it takes 5 seconds to select a pile of more than one cards. Windows 3.11 had better speed than that but it cant run on freeDOS.

SEAL's drawing algorithms was terribly slow. This is one of the reasons that we're rewriting it to XSeal (will use a similar-but-faster approach of the operations that The Force uses). Another reason is preemptive multitasking.
