I have a Sound Blaster PCI 128 card.
When the DOS driver(SBINIT.COM) is loaded
in the memory,Seal crashes during booting.
Why?

OK.Here is the configuration of my computer:
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1600+
HDD: 30Gb FDD: 1.44Mb
Sound card: SB PCI 128 (Model: CT4750)
OS: MS-DOS 6.22 & 7.10
The DOS driver for SB PCI is SBINIT ver 5.23,
which is downloadable from:
http://ftp.cvut.cz/Asus/misc/audio/common/dos

SEAL works fine in a Win9x DOS box,but it
crashes my computer completely during booting under pure DOS with the SB PCI 128
driver loaded(It can start if the SB PCI
driver is not loaded in the memory, but with
no sound.).Thanks for any help.
Note:The SB PCI driver requires EMM386.EXE.

I have the same problem. It appears Creative is not very serious about supporting the cards based on Ensoniq's chipsets. I have to depend on a real SB16 for pure DOS. But any solutions I will try -- considering ISA is pretty much gone

AMD K6-2 333MHz (83MHz x 4.0)
Chipset - SiS 5591/5595
128 SDRAM
Win98 4.10.1998
SB PCI 128
SB 16 ISA PnP

i'm afraid i simply gave up on the onboard PCI sound on my machine and stuck in a trusty SB vibra16, therefore i have no experience in these matters, what role does the driver play? is the allegro setup program unable to detect it without?

Try using the Allegro Setup program to test other sound drivers and see if it works with a different one.

In the Allegro Setup program, choose "Digital Driver" then choose a different driver. You may want to try "Autodetect" first to see what it comes up with.

No.Allegro Setup program doesn't work either.
It crashes my computer while detecting sound
cards with the SB PCI driver(DOS) loaded.
(It can't find any sound card if the SB PCI
driver is not loaded.)

I now realize this is DJPGG's fault,because
I find all DJPGG programs I have tried have
this sound problem.Maybe I'm wrong.Any idea?

Most real and protected mode programs work
fine with the SB PCI driver. For example,
DOS4GW,PMode/W programs and most games.

is not a DJGPP problem... is an Allegro problem, but since almost all DJGPP sound programs are using the Allegro library, is natural to think that DJGPP caused the problem

Apart from buying another sound card, no.
